About Warrington

Warrington is the name of a town and borough in Cheshire in the North West of England.

The River Mersey runs through the town and Warrington has been the site of an important river crossing since ancient times. The area shows evidence of both Bronze Age and Roman settlement.

Swedish furniture giant Ikea chose the Birchwood area of Warrington as the location for its first British store which opened in October 1987.

Warrington is infamous for the IRA bombing which occurred on the 20th March 1993. Two children, Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball, were killed and scores injured when a device was detonated in the busy town centre.
