More about Derby

Derby became a city in 1977 but it was the original county town of Derbyshire in the English Midlands.

 

The city used to be an important railway engineering hub but in recent years Derby has become a centre for other types of transport design and engineering. Rolls Royce and Alstom both have production facilities in the city and Toyota’s headquarters in the UK is located nearby.

 

Although the city and surrounding areas are highly urbanised, there are many rural attractions nearby. The picturesque Heights of Abraham has been a popular destination since Victorian times. Visitors can take a thrilling cable car flight through the Derwent Valley to the top of the Heights and then enjoy the panoramic view.
